About this event
Saturday, November 16th will be the day we will visit the Lions Drag Strip Museum.
We will meet in the parking lot of the museum at 8:30 a.m. where there will be a flagged off area for our lovely PMCs.
At 9:00 a.m. we will enter the museum and be greeted by a member of the Foundation that will be giving us a private tour of the front of the museum where many vehicles are displayed. We will also tour the back of the shop where many of these beautiful cars were built, and where other custom cars are being built. This is your chance to learn the history of the only drag strip of its kind that was located right here in the South Bay.
The beginning was in 1955, and it continued to thrive for eighteen years until the complaints of excessive noise became too much at which time the Harbor Commission revoked their operating permit. We will learn how their opening day was planned for about 2500 cars and over 10,000 attendees showed up at the gates. The very last day the dragstrip was open for business there were 20,000 attendees to say goodbye to this well know landmark.
A box lunch will be served at the museum after our tour. It will consist of a deli sandwich, chips, dill pickle, fruit, and cheesecake for dessert.Sandwiches will be your choice of 1) Turkey Avocado, 2) Café Club with ham, turkey, bacon and Swiss, 3) Pastrami and Swiss or 4) Vegetarian with mushrooms, cucumbers, tomatoes, red peppers, avocado and cheese.
Please indicate your choice when you send in your reservations.
